2 Bedroom Cottage in Hurst Green

This quaint mid-terrace cottage lies in the village of Hurst Green, in the heart of the Ribble Valley and on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Bowland AONB. Hurst Green is a pretty, popular village, surrounded by picture perfect countryside. A walker's paradise, with many footpaths to explore right on the doorstep. Lovely in every season - visit in spring and early summer to find beautiful bluebell woods and come back later in the year for spectacular autumn displays. There's much of interest in the village itself, from the historic Almshouses opposite the cottage, to the spectacular Stonyhurst College, just around the corner. The area is rich in wildlife, home to a variety of flora in the hedgerows, small herds of wild deer living in the woods and you'll hear a symphony of birdsong as you walk the local paths. J. R. R. Tolkien wrote much of the Lord of the Rings trilogy whilst staying at Stonyhurst College. He was renowned for his love of nature and wooded landscapes and the countryside. A number of names which occur in 'The Lord of the Rings' are similar to those found locally. The now famous Tolkien Trail walk starts and finishes in Hurst Green and takes in Stonyhurst and some of these places and landmarks from the books. The area is also perfect as a base for cyclists with cycle trails through the woods up onto Longridge Fell and beyond. Gisburn Forest, famous for its amazing cycle routes, is only a short drive away from Hurst Green. Inside the cottage, snuggle down in the cosy sitting room in front of the toasty Belgian woodburner stove to read a book, watch TV or just relax with a glass of something chilled. The well-equipped kitchen has all the essentials for a self-catered break, as well as lovely elevated views over the garden and woods beyond. The large master bedroom has the comfiest bed and prettiest iron bedstead and the smaller bedroom has a single trundle bed. The smart, high spec bathroom, installed this year, includes a spacious walk-in shower. On sunny mornings enjoy your morning coffee outside on the little terrace overlooking the garden. Eating out is easy with The Bayley Arms and the Shireburn just a short walk away. There's also Millie's, a little cafe serving great breakfasts and lunches, and delicious ice cream. There are many great takeaways nearby - you'll find a list of our favourites in our info pack. The Ribble Valley is a famously foodie area, home to the Michelin starred Northcote, the long-standing fabulousness of The Inn at Whitewell, The Freemasons at Wiswell and many other great establishments. Clitheroe's Holmes Mill, a "unique celebration of Lancashire food, drink and entertainment", boasts the longest bar in Britain, as well as an Everyman Theatre and Food Hall that is well worth a visit. Clitheroe has a great mix of long established specialist shops, such as multi award-winning Byrnes Wines, Exchange Coffee and Cowmans butchers and a growing number of quirky bars and pop-up restaurants. Hurst Green has many other picturesque villages as neighbours - all with their own character and history. Waddington, Bolton by Bowland, Chipping, Slaidburn, Downham are all close by and lovely to stroll around and explore. For panoramic views, climb Pendle Hill - steeped in the history of the famous Pendle Witches. On a clear day you will be able to see the whole of the Ribble Valley and as far as the Yorkshire Dales to the North and Morcambe Bay to the West. Other nearby attractions include the Bowland Wild Boar Park, the breathtaking Whalley Arches and the National Trust owned property of Gawthorpe Hall, or head to the coast and spend a day at the seaside resort of Blackpool or Lytham St. Annes.
