Summary: My buddies and I really didn’t expect much when we decided to rent a yurt for a weekend fishing trip to spinney mountain reservoir. That being said, we were pretty easy going about how small the yurt actually was. We weren’t, however, easygoing about the fire ant hill that the yurt was placed on top of. Well, we tried to be, at least. But after cooking dinner and trying to fend off the fire ants from the tent, our possessions, and our selves for about an hour and a half, we decided that there was no way we could actually stay in the yurt for the night. The ants were all over, and we were being eaten alive even when not laying down on the air mattresses to sleep. Our legs were all covered in bullseye target shaped bites. These were not like normal ants, they were incredibly aggressive and their bites were painful. It wasn’t worth trying to stay, so we cut our trip short a day and drove 2 hours back to Denver in order to escape the fire ants and get some rest. If it weren’t for the ants, the yurt would have been sufficient. It was just big enough to for the 3 air mattresses, so we certainly would have stayed the night under normal circumstances. The cardboard kindling and chips & salsa were an appreciated touch as well, the fire ants just unfortunately overruled everything
