Casa de Coco is a well-maintained Beach Front House, located 15 KM south of Mahahual down the beach road but 1 km off a paved road. The house offers peace and quiet with the convenience of Mahahual in 15 to 20 minutes by paved roads. We are also less than 30 minutes to Xcalak. The location is the main reason that we purchased this house. We used to rent a house in El Placer and it took us more than 30 minutes to get to Mahahual.
The house now has brand new double-pane tinted sliding windows both upstairs and down. These were added at the end of 11/18. These windows add additional security throughout. The whole outside of the house was also painted in April of 2019.
The house offers Kayaking, Snorkeling and swimming on one of the most beautiful sandy bottom beaches in Mahahual (We might be a little Biased). There is no turtle grass. Our beach is very private since there is not another house on either side of us. You can walk on the beach for miles.
The beach is located across the beach road which is steps from the house and is part of our property. You sleep to the sounds of the ocean and will wake up to views of the beautiful beach. We are one of the last houses on the road so there are only about 5 or 6 cars that pass by each day. The location of the house offers great protection from the storms.
The main living area of the house is located on the second floor which provides wonderful breezes throughout the whole house year around. This is extremely important since the house is an eco-friendly, self-sustained house. The electricity is provided by a solar system with a backup generator and the water is collected in a very large cistern. There is a water heater that provides hot water throughout the house. However, there is no air-conditioning and no hairdryers. The use of Hair Dryers will damage our electrical system, so they are strictly prohibited.
The house sits on a 20 by 50-meter lot which backups to the jungle. The closest house is about a ยฝ km to the north. There are no large houses to the south which offers complete privacy. However, we do have on-site caretakers who offer security 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The caretakerโs casita is attached to the side of the house.
The house offers a master bedroom with a king-sized bed and an En-Suite master bath. The second bedroom is very large with 2 twin beds which can be combined into a king bed. The second bathroom is located next to the second bedroom. Both bathrooms have beautiful tile with glass blocked showers and Mexican ceramic sinks.
The living room is open to the dining area which has a passthrough bar to the kitchen. The fully equipped kitchen has an oven and new refrigerator, as well as a large sink with Mexican tiled counters and backsplash. There are ceiling fans throughout the house, as well as new curtains on all windows. The house is full of dark wood cabinets and closets.
There is a staircase that leads to the roof which offers incredible views of the beach and jungle in all directions. It is private enough for (nude) sunbathing during the day. The roof offers beautiful views of the stars at night.
There is also a wonderful, large covered balcony that runs across the whole front of the house. The balcony can be accessed from the master bedroom, living room and dining area. A table and chairs are provided on the balcony for enjoying your meals alfresco as well as lounge chairs. The balcony is great for reading or just watching the ocean. It offers delightful views of the sunrise over the ocean every morning.
The private beach has several large coconut palms which offer plenty of shade. There is a landscaped area for your beach chairs. As mentioned previously, the beach offers a very sandy bottom with a gradual drop and is excellent for swimming. Further out, there is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef which provides great snorkeling. We offer lounge chairs for the beach as well as kayaks, snorkel gear and life vests.
We provide free bottled water for drinking, cooking and brushing your teeth. We also provide fresh bed linens, bath and beach towels weekly. The house is equipped with toilet paper, paper towels, dish and hand soap as well as cleaning supplies. We also provide free wireless internet and an internet TV. With the internet TV you can sign in with your own Netflix or Amazon account.
Even with our remote location there is a great restaurant/bar located north of the house, on the beach less than a ยฝ Kilometer away, which serves lunch and dinner. There is also a wonderful hotel restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner within 2 Kilometers north. Of course, you can purchase all your food and supplies on the way in Tulum or Chetumal and prepare your own meals at the house. There are also several small stores in town where you can purchase enough food and alcohol to survive your stay. A rental car is a must.
Please understand that our house is not for everyone. The house is in the jungle and with the jungle comes bugs and jungle animals. Not everyone can live without air-conditioning and hair dryers. There has also been an issue with Sargassum seaweed in the area. This issue has stretched the shoreline from Florida to South America. Some areas are worse then others. At certain times of the year there is none and other times the sea is full of it. It can be gone one day, back the next and vice versa. No one can predict how the Sargassum will be during your vacation. We are not in a cove, so we have less issues than other areas in Mahahual. Even when it is bad on our beach, there is generally very little in our water. The beaches are cleaned in downtown Mahahual daily. Our caretaker will do his best to try to keep the beach as clean as possible. However, there are times when the Sargassum is overwhelming. On days that our beach is bad, we spend more time at the beaches downtown or sightseeing.
Lastly our caretaker is always available to help you with any issues you may have. We can arrange a great tour guide that can take you anywhere you want to go. Our house offers the ability for your vacation to be as active or as restful as you want. We want to ensure that you have a wonderful and memorable vacation at Casa de Coco.
