Parking for 1 car. No smoking. Please note: There is a steep drop from the wooden railings in the garden over the hillside.. Navy Blue Cottage is perched high up on a hillside in Kingswear and has the most amazing views over the River Dart and Dartmouth. To one side you can see the world famous Britannia Naval College, where Royal Navy officers including The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York and the Prince of Wales were trained, to the other side you can see the dramatic cliffs which shield Dartmouth harbour from the sea.
With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen/dining room and living room set over three floors, there is plenty of space for up to five guests to be accommodated, perfectly suited for a family looking for an inviting base to return to after exploring this beautiful area of South Devon. The cottage showcases a decked area which takes full advantage of the breathtaking river views, the perfect space for outside dining and barbecues. Enjoy a relaxing start to the morning with a coffee at the breakfast bar, the perfect spot for planning adventures for the day ahead. Gather around the dining table with six chairs to enjoy a delicious meal whilst taking in the sunset and enchanting shimmering waters over the Waterhead Creek and River Dart. There are also a couple of armchairs in front of the bay windows, you could certainly picture yourself getting stuck into a good book here with a refreshing beverage to hand.
Venture downstairs to the lower ground floor where there is a wonderfully presented living room which has patio doors leading out onto the decking area. As you step out onto the decking area, you will enjoy panoramic views of the river with plenty of seating. Whether it’s a crisp winter day or a warm summer afternoon, you will want to sit out here as much as possible, and relish in the natural beauty of the countryside and the quaint waterside town vista. The cottage is accessible by car, however please note that it is situated on top of a hill, so by foot, some less mobile guests could have difficulty with access. There are eight steps leading down from the road to the front door.
Wander a few minutes from the cottage down to Kingswear for a newspaper or a drink in one of the pubs beside the ferry. Begin your exploration of the area by hopping on the ferry to Dartmouth, where historical buildings, galleries, boutiques, quaint cobbled streets and exceptional local produce can be found served in the many restaurants and pubs.
A whole host of attractions awaits, explore Dartmouth Castle, visit Agatha Christie’s holiday home at National Trust Greenway, or take the kids to Woodlands Theme Park for endless fun. There are plenty of coastal walks, crabbing, kayaking to see seals, boat trips and beautiful beaches to enjoy, you will never be bored here. Explore the coastline from Kingswear to Torbay by steam train on the Dartmouth Steam Railway. For day trips to the beach, the soft sands of Blackpool Sands is just 3 miles away. Be sure to visit at the end of August when the Dartmouth Regatta unfolds in a blaze of glory.
